I hope that you have enjoyed your Christmas break and that 2007 will be a happy and successful year for both you and the associations that you represent. It is a tremendous privilege to have been elected as President of ICP, and I will do my very best to continue the excellent work of my predecessors. I am particularly grateful to David, who has been so helpful in the months leading up to the handover.
Each of the presidents of ICP have brought their own particular gifts to the Confederation, and it is a tribute to their hard work and commitment that ICP has grown in both size and influence. I was, therefore, delighted when it was decided in Rome to offer honorary life membership to our Past Presidents. I hope that a significant number will be able to join us in Auckland so that we can very publicly express our gratitude. For those who can’t be with us, I shall do my best to attend a conference that is more convenient for them. I have already arranged to attend the North American Secondary Principals Convention in Las Vegas, and as Jack Delaney, who was president from 1997 to 1998, can’t be in Auckland, I shall be able to make the presentation there.
Since I saw many of you in Iceland, having had two hips replaced in May, I am in a much better state to travel, and I have made good use of my regained mobility. I’ve been to China, France and Italy, and am looking forward to visiting member organisations in Ireland and North America, before setting off for New Zealand.
The Memorandum of Understanding with iNet, which we discussed in Iceland, was finally signed at the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust Conference in Birmingham in November. As we look forward to developing our regional networks I welcome the increasing number of opportunities to further our links with other organisations who are working towards similar goals.
