Here is a letter from the Organising Committee (updated on 20 February 2007): Dear Colleagues, The International Confederation of Principals (ICP) biennial conference is being hosted in Auckland, New Zealand from 2-5 April 2007. This will be an outstanding conference with the theme “The Leading Edge” - focussing on innovation, creativity and futures thinking within the context of school leadership. We have an exceptional line up of international speakers confirmed including the following:- ... Sir Ken Robinson, Professor Emeritus at Warwick University who is an internationally-renowned expert in the field of creativity and innovation. ... John McBeath, Chair of Educational Leadership at the University of Cambridge and Director of Leadership for Learning: The Cambridge Network. ... Dr Michael Schratz, Professor of Education at the University of Innsbruck. His main interests are in educational innovation and change with a particular focus on leadership, quality development and self-evaluation. ... Dr Todd Whitaker, Professor of Educational Leadership at Indiana State University. Dr Whitaker has published in the areas of leadership, instructional improvement, change, leadership effectiveness, technology and middle level practices. ... Dr Pita Sharples, a prominent New Zealand academic, a Maori Party Member of Parliament, and an excellent presenter. ... Lee Cunxin, a remarkable man with a remarkable story to tell of his life growing up in poverty-stricken China serving Chairman Mao in the Beijing Dance Academy. His life story has been made into a film. ... Mark Prensky, an internationally-acclaimed speaker, writer, futurist and visionary whose focus has been on reinventing the learning process through the use of technology. ... Dr John Hood, Vice Chancellor of the University of Oxford, whose attempts to make radical reforms in Oxford’s administrative and academic systems have been met with much opposition. It would be difficult, if not impossible, to find such a line up of speakers all in the one place at the one time. In addition, there will be other high quality presenters in both keynote and korero (workshop) sessions. We urge you to take advantage of this opportunity to attend a truly international conference that will cater for all school leaders and those with a strong focus and interest in school leadership from across the world. New Zealand is a safe, picturesque country, and the ICP Convention provides a wonderful opportunity for you to come to Auckland both for the conference and also for the school visits being scheduled in the days before the conference begins. Many Auckland schools provide for students from a diverse range of cultures with programmes in place to cater for these needs. You will be able to see Reading Recovery in action, along with the extensive use of a range of technologies to support learning, second language programmes, immersion programmes, cultural programmes and activities and many literacy rich classroom. School visits are being arranged for those with an interest at all school levels. If you have never been to an ICP Convention before, then a great experience awaits you. Meet other principals from other countries and cultures. Learn new ways to influence and manage learning. Develop new and lasting friendships. Establish new networks that will be of lasting benefit to you, your students and teachers. We often talk about globalised learning and our globalised world. The ICP Convention is one way to take practical advantage of that world. Conference dates have been deliberately set immediately prior to the Easter break, allowing delegates the opportunity to stay on post-conference to enjoy many of the wonderful attractions both Auckland City and New Zealand have to offer. We urge you to join us at the Leading Edge here in Auckland, New Zealand, 2-5 April 2007 for what will be a truly memorable international conference. It is a long way to come but we know the experience will be well worth the effort. Further details and registration are both available through www.icp2007nz.com.
